The decisive moment, captured by
luck and by art, is the heart of my photo work. Debts to
Cartier-Bresson, Robert Frank, W. Eugene Smith, Helen Levitt and others
are very clear. To see again such perfect instants as those
masters had found, to hold and to celebrate those singular places in
the endless stream of life, are my constant challenges.
A scrutiny of nature’s
landscapes, drawing the figure to learn what we truly are, in likeness
and structure -- and a weaving of that knowledge into a telling of our
very own stories -- those are my quests.
