Morris Dancers celebrate the coming of Celtic summer, dancing at dawn
on May 1st, on the high, Belmont Plateau of Fairmount Park, in the
shadow of a giant, gnarled old tree. A ‘Dance to
the
Wheatfields’ signals the ancient agrarian tradition being
honored
once again. The beribboned Maypole supports a playful
weaving-
dance, heavy with the burden of fertility.
